Well, the small town grocery store parking lot:
Something rare here:
Driven by a woman who might have been old enough to buy it new. Pristine but imperfect condition suggests an old restoration or immaculate original.
Also saw this real truck parked a couple blocks from home a few days ago:
That is all

To be fair, I think you can get a placard here for having a bad back or walking with a limp. I looked at it, actual automatic, no doubt with an eventual 0-60 time.

It still shows commitment !
Those exhaust pipes make me wonder if that young-at-heart lady may have had the car fitted with a big Type 4 engine – or, why not, a flat-six and relevant Sportomatic.

I saw an orange bus like that the other day, painted like a 60s bus white on top, with some flowers for good measure. It also had torquethrust wheels, and big drag tires on the back, along with a stinger exhaust.

And love, and old car doesn’t survive like this if it isn’t cherished.
I didn’t see her start it up, but as you say with those pipes, who knows what might be under the rear hatch. Anything would help, I suppose.
As an aside, my mom’s first new car was a Beetle in 1970. Not too long after she met my dad, and he blew up the engine (hard to do, I think). He replaced it with a Porsche 912 engine. They sold the car before I was born.

No speedometers on the automatic buses, you get a calendar.

The four exhaust pipes are attached, it appears, to a “monza” style exhaust header system for the old air cooled engines. I’ve used these, and the sound is not unpleasant.
Much cheaper than replacing all the original VW pieces as well.
